The DC Courts had a great turnout at today’s Pro Bono Open House in the Domestic Violence Division! Over 40 lawyers and law students came to Superior Court to learn about the need for more pro bono representation in Civil Protection Order (CPO)...

The WBA established the award in 2022 following the death of founding member Joseph H. Hairston, who is known as a “brilliant and trailblazing lawyer who was the father of the Civil Rights Movement's legal strategy,” according to the organization.

Throughout the spring months, divisions across the Court have spent hours preparing, planning and sharing resources at public libraries across Washington, D.C., all to bring access to justice to the streets where our neighbors live, work and play.

The kindergarten class stopped by to see the Ceremonial Courtroom and learn about the court system on their annual field trip to downtown. They also got to meet DC Courts mascot "Libby" and hear from DCCA Law Librarian Laura Moorer!

This week, Judge Ebony Scott spoke with ArentFox Schiff summer associates about the importance of pro bono work and giving back to our neighbors in the District. Pro Bono Manager Jodi Feldman also took the associates on a tour of the Landlord and Tenant Branch, where pro bono representation is greatly needed.

Students learned about what a career in law may look like for them and spoke with Hon. Demeo, Hon. Richter and Hon. Trafford about their roles serving the public.

After two decades of effort to preserve and modernize the DC Courts’ Judiciary Square campus, the C Street Addition to the H. Carl Moultrie Courthouse has been recognized as a 2025 AIA Justice Facilities Review Award winner.
