DC Family Court's Marriage Bureau Will Perform 14 Weddings On February 14

WASHINGTON DC – In honor of Valentine’s Day, and the number of requests for weddings on that day, DC Superior Court’s Marriage Bureau has filled its calendar on Wednesday, February 14 and will perform fourteen weddings. Weddings will begin at 9am and take place every half hour until 3:30pm.

“We are pleased to accommodate this number of couples who want to have this special date as their anniversary date. I appreciate court staff adjusting their schedules so that we can perform this many ceremonies on Valentine’s Day,” said Chief Judge Robert E. Morin. “We expect to see a lot of smiles this coming Wednesday, on the faces of the couples as well as court employees.”

DC Superior Court’s Marriage Bureau processed an average of 6,350 marriage license applications per year in recent years. Over 1,300 couples were married at the courthouse last year.

PRESS NOTE: Cameras, both still and television, as well as audio recorders will be allowed in the courthouse for the limited purpose of recording activities in the Marriage Ceremony Rooms and the Marriage Bureau with the parties’ consent only.

Facts: DC Marriage Licenses are valid indefinitely, but they are only valid within the confines of the District of Columbia.
